A group of 15 of us have a permit to hike Whitney in mid-September, and hopefully we are all safer from the coronavirus by then and outdoor rec sites are opened up. We're thinking of camping 1 night at Whitney Portal. There are 15 of us; all individuals (not families). Does anyone know the relative size of the G2 and G3 campsites? I'm wondering if we can fit 15 adults there, in various backpacking tents and hammocks. Or maybe we need to rent a few sites. Thanks!

Last I heard and that changes every 17 seconds , group sites will be closed for this season. other sites have a limit of 6/people per site , some of the sites are small and only hold one car and room for a tent or two . 15 ? Not family how many cars??

Doug what about the campsites below the overflow parking area? You have the whole parking lot and it's not far from the trailhead.

your thoughts?

Not family, but we'll be traveling together, so arriving in shared cars.
