A friend gave us a Markill "Devil" stove, which I believe was purchased @ the Portal store. Does the store carry the fuel cartridges for this stove? The instructions in the box state that only Markill cartridges should be used, & we haven't been able to find the cartridges. Anyone have experience with this stove to know if other brands of fuel cartridges can be safely used? Thanks for any advice!

Hi Sounds like a stove we sold I don't recall a special can, over the years the Euro cans are hard to find and the best stove ever cans are gone , Try using a primus or msr can at home, outside and check for leaks at the seal , Good Luck Thanks Doug

Randuf,

From the photos I can see on the internet of a Markill Devil, it's just a standard canister gas stove -- a very popular type of stove.

A lot of the brands say "only use our gas," but that's more legal CYA and marketing than anything else. The fact of the matter is that you can use any gas canister with a standard 7/16ths threaded connector. The following brands should work with your stove:
Jetboil
MSR
Coleman
Primus
Snow Peak
Optimus
Glowmaster
Brunton

All of the brands are essentially interchangeable, and it doesn't matter which one you choose except in colder weather (50F and below) when you want to avoid regular butane and only get isobutane.

Hope that helps,

HJ

Thanks! Since we will use it @ Trail Camp where it's often cold @ night & early a.m., we'll just pick up some MSR Isopro.

The only brand to avoid is Camping Gaz which has a different (non-threaded) connector and of course the big green 100% propane cylinders that are used for car camping.

Enjoy the trail...
