A strong maybe. smile We will be at the Grand Canyon on the 10th & 11th with my parents. Will have to drive them back to HB and then head north on Friday morning. It's a tight schedule! I'm trying to change our Grand Canyon arrangements to the 9th & 10th to ensure we will make the memorial hike. I so want to be there.

I got a pm yesterday from someone asking:

"Is this a real clique-y type of event where everyone knows everyone else and outsiders feel left out?"

I would certainly hope that people wouldn't avoid this hike due to not being a "regular" or already knowing most of the others attending. As a celebration of both Bill's and Wayne's lives and contributions to this Board and our knowledge, I would hope also that the atmosphere would be that of family, support, and welcome.

The list is informal, the arrangements purposefully low-key. All are welcome, and there is no mad rush to move up the trail or the peak. There are simple facts that all should realize:

1) You will be driving to 10K at the trailhead. This leaves little time for acclimation. This may affect those sensitive to altitude.

2) I personally wouldn't drink the water in the creeks through HM due to the high stock traffic and cattle grazing, so you'll want to bring plenty of water for yourself.

3) We'll try our best to keep the group together, moving as fast as the slowest person. Besides, it's a hike for reflection, not an attempt to get your heart to jump out of your chest.

This is absolutely correct. A celebration of the lives of Bill and Wayne and also for others. It doesn't matter if you knew them well, a little, or at all. "An atmosphere of family, support, and welcome." Everyone needs that.

I'm going to start the pot luck dinner thread.
This will tell who's bringing what for the pot luck.

If you bring something that needs serving utensils please bring them too.

Doug, unfortunately Paul and Tim aren't going to be able to make it... they're contractors and are not going to be able to get away from work (the life of a contractor). It doesn't look like Barry's gong to be able to make it either; he'd becoming from Yakima, Washington.

I'm pretty sure Ken is still planning on being there, though. ... and me!

Sadly, there is one other that we will be thinking of on this Memorial Hike - Karen Robinson's husband Mark passed away after a long illness.

Please keep Karen and her young daughter in your thoughts and prayers... Beautiful Karen, who joined us on the Thor Peak Memorial for Kent Ashcraft... who united us on the summit with her accompaniment of Amazing Grace on her guitar.

Hi John,
I'll add you guys to the list. Yes you can drop off your pot luck food at the hostel, there's a room to store it in.
And yes look for Laura's Element.
Take care.
