Congratulations for your 25th year of running Whitney Portal Store successfully.

I started to hike about 8 years ago. WPS and all people work there is the reason to come back to Mt. Whitney. Mt. Whitney game me a satisfaction of climbing mountain but all of you gave me better satisfaction in life than Mt. Whitney.

Thank you all from bottom of my heart.

Wow, 25 years...

I guess 25 years ago, you and Earlene were asking yourselves, "We did what?"

Over time, you stuck with it. Yes, life has its peaks and valleys, but you have your Portal.

Thank you for making Whitney Portal a very special place. The food, the atmosphere, and special people who run the Portal Store, make it the best damn place in the world.

Journey well...

Doug,
I won't be able to make this one but I want to add my thanks for the warm welcome I always get when I come into the store and congratulations for all you achieved.

What Shin said... except "I started to hike about <16 years ago>".

Big time congrats Doug, Earlene & crew!

Well, after an unfortunate calamity of errors with Fed Ex today...it looks like we're stuck at home waiting for our Jeep bumper to arrive tomorrow, or Monday?!?!?

Today was the scheduled delivery date, so we took the stock bumper, skid plate, and lights off of the Jeep this morning and waited for the the new bumper to arrive. By 2pm, we started calling FedEx for an ETA. They called back at 3pm to tell us that our package (that was in Palmdale at 2am this morning) was now BACK in Riverside and they couldn't explain how that happened or when the bumper would actually be here! mad mad mad So, once again...we wait!

Doug, I'm so sorry we couldn't be there to help celebrate with you and Earlene...but if anyone's interested, I have all the fixin's here for two batches of Magic Cookie Bars wink

Sorry again,
Stacy & Curt

ps Hoping to make it to the Memorial Hike...with more Magic Cookie Bars! grin

Good morning Doug and Earlene,

I wish I could be there to help celebrate your 25th year ownership of the Whitney Portal Store. Over the years I would guess that sometimes it probably didn’t seem like a decision to “celebrate” when seasons were bad and work days were long and hard. But what a destination it has become for weary hikers and gathering of friends.

Your greetings and welcomes to every person that comes up to the Portal are so genuine; people are just drawn to you….to the Portal. I have only a vague memory of the store from earlier trips up Whitney when I was younger, and then a number of years went by before I came back to Whitney… but I remember our 1995 Whitney Hike and meeting you, Doug, at the Portal Store that year… and you’ve not changed at all since. You and Earlene have always made my family and me feel so special on every trip to the Portal. Thank you.

Truly, I think the celebration is ours that you made that decision 25 years ago.

Rosie

Coincidentally, today is going to be at least 150 summits of Mt. Whitney for me. I was trying to think of something big to do, but getting it done and heading down to the Thompson's celebration at what I consider to be the center of the earth couldn't be a better way to go.

Congratulations and please reconsider the retirement. We want you and Earlene around for many more years. You do make Whitney a more special place.
