...the opportunity arises to climb the peak during the second full moon of the month. I went up the Main Trail and headed down the Mountaineer's Route. Here are a few photos: The rest of the album: http://piotrowski.smugmug.com/Whats-New-1/Once-In-A-Blue-Moon-Mt-Whitney/25198191_stTq4j#!i=2067554742&k=kMtNdJ3

Really nice photos - that Sony camera did a great job capturing the light.

Thanks.
I was watching the moon set as I walked the west side and thought I'd get a good one... but then the clouds covered it up.

Richard, great pictures; they are some of the best, if not the best that I've seen in a while. The clarity and resolution are unbelievable. Are the shots taken with your Lumix, or do you have a new HD camera?

Richard,
Echo the above sentiments, these photos - the light, clarity and color - are just stunning.

I really think you should consider doing another calendar!

Paul, I'm using a Sony NEX-5N whenever I think I'll want something good with me. The rest of the time it's just the iPhone. Thanks.
Rosie, I've remembered at least a few times this year that I didn't do a 2012 calendar because I didn't want to do the Same Old Thing and wasn't in the mood to look at a bunch of photos to pick new ones. This year, since I did the JMT, I think I'm going to be picking 13 for a '13 calendar.

Well, you've had some pretty amazing pictures this year, that's for sure... it'll be fun seeing which 13 pics you narrow them down to. These pictures alone would make a fantastic calendar. You can put me down for an order

Nice pics. I really like #3. Just curious, what time were you near the summit for the alpenglow shots? I was at Trailside Meadow around 0630 when I could begin to see the colors. And the clouds definitely made for a great show.

Awesome photos!! I'm looking into getting a Sony NEX. What lens did you use? Did you use any particular settings to get your beautiful "glowing" effects? Did you notice the camera's weight?

Thanks.
I was near the summit by around 6:00am and heading down the Final 400 by 6:45.
I'm shooting on IA (full auto). The stock lens is an 18-55.

Richard the pics are just stunning. I really want to head up there for a true photo trip next year. I want to spend a few days just setting up some key shots and waiting for the light.
I have to say you really captured some magical light here. Truly fantastic pics! The 5N is a fine little camera. I've been pondering one of that series for some massive weight savings over my bulky 5D2 and lenses.
Cheers, -K

Richard P.,
I'm resisting the urge to go onto amazon right now and buy one of these sony cameras! I carried my D80 up to the summit a couple of weeks ago. I enjoyed having the camera with me and didn't mind the weight of it, but the bulkiness was annoying.
If you don't mind me asking, did you do any 'processing' on the images posted on smugmug, or is this how they looked right off of the camera?
