Yes, there were skeeters both Saturday and Sunday. I was wearing bug-proof clothes head-to-toe, so the only time I noticed was when I stopped. They seemed worse in the forest though.
The wind both days also did a pretty good job of keeping them grounded.

Tom, I've stuck with the Hi-Tec Altitude boots that I've been using to climb just about everything in the past two-plus years for all but one of these section hikes. They are so wore out that I don't dare do anything technical with them.
I've used a pair of really light, high-top Columbia Trail Runners for one of the section hikes and most of the recent climbs up-and-down the MR.

I like seeing whether I agree with other's choice of footwear...
Ordered a pair of these and the Crossleather's recommended by Dr. Dirtbag...
We'll see whether my feet agree with either of these.
I do like the Altitude's... they're fairly light for a boot, stay mostly dry because of the lining and most importantly, fit better than a SL of the more expensive boots I've got sitting in my garage.

I just got a really great pair from addidas. They are more solid than the cascadia and they are goretex they work great for cross country due to the stiffness of the soul and they have a great tread... I will have them tonight,and most likely will wear them tomorrow on our hike together, so you will have a chance to see them .. Like you my feet get destroyed so I am for ever changing shoes.. The shoe that is the easiest on the feet for long distance in my opinion is the HOKA One ...

I bought a pair of the Addidas Mountain Racing (from the Terrax (sp?) line) shoes last winter and just picked up another of their summer high-tops recently. Don't recall the model and haven't even broken them out of the box yet.
Needless to say, I probably have about 5 years worth of shoes sitting in boxes at home... way more than that if I can find the boxes of Altitude's because I get 2+ years of HARD trail/snow/climbing out of each pair of those.
Looking forward to tomorrow... we'll need to decide whether we want it to be leisurely, or somewhat fast... I think I can pace us up sub-4 fairly easily without putting Sunday at risk. My feet started felling somewhat normal yesterday.

Agree with Davey. Running shoes have worked for me over many years and I have climbed all of the Colorado 14ers wearing the low cut running shoes either Adidas or Nike going on established trails and off trails when bushwhacking.
Of course I have dinged my ankles a few times when boots would have provided some protection, but I am old and set in my ways and like the lightness of a running shoe.

Laughing pretty hard about the Marcos comment. I probably could finance a trip to Nepal if I had been more disciplined in returning boots/shoes that didn't work. (It used to be the boots/shoes lined one side of the garage... it's recently started creeping over to the other side (and many are stacked), not to mention the living room, bedroom, guest room, entry...
Ernie, your comment about ankle biters is why I (mostly) go with high-tops... plus not having to stop to empty my shoes of scree, etc... long pants and high-tops are pretty effective at keeping crap out of my shoes... and, seriously, I wish more people would wear long pants (if you get my meaning).
