Rosie, I would really like to be on top of Whitney when you stroll in, this could be a great summit party. TB Doug said he would make an attempt, Now I have to try to get a permit. Got your schedule, would love to hit a section of the trail, but it would be a last minute thing depending on commitments back in the world.

Well, I’ll be watching for you guys. It’d be great if you were able to swing it and pop in somewhere along the trail! You guys are great - (TB) Doug with his teasing and your ready smile and steady head… can you imagine the fun we’d have on the trail!!! Tell Doug to stop fretting and get his butt in the back country for a couple days!

Seriously, I hope things are going well with the pain-in-the-ass insurance adjusters and that you are all well.

I do hope I get to see you sometime this summer

I'm getting SO excited... and a little bit nervous about getting a few last minutes things done! I head south tomorrow at noon - I'll be taking the train, eventually hooking up to the YARTS bus in Merced for the last leg to Yosemite Valley. It's going to be a fun (and much more relaxing) way to start my adventure.

Laura, you're pictures are beautiful and inspiring... as always! I'm going to make an effort this year to put a little more thought into the composure of my pictures rather than taking "point and shoot" so literally .

...and I’m determined to drink more water and electrolytes this time. We’ll see if it makes any difference in swelling and face-puffiness…. so if I look like the “stay-puft-marshmallow-man” it won’t be because of lack of water. I really appreciate your suggestions and concerns Laura... you're a great friend! I'll definitely be watching for flashes of orange and listening for a moose-call!

Doug… some time ago when I was bemoaning Silver Pass, you had replied with all the reasons why I love Silver Pass, and I printed it. I’m bringing it with me as a reminder for when Silver Pass (or any other pass) gets tough – that it’s totally a matter of perspective and how we choose to see it.

I also printed Shin’s “lessons I learned from Richard”… Shin has such a pure and honest way of expressing himself, and these “lessons” had a lot of wisdom in them.

Sooo…. I’ll be starting my hike out of Yosemite on the 15th - my “this is what 60 is all about” hike! I’m not sure if I can post anything along the way… maybe at Reds Meadow or Vermillion. If anyone’s out on the trail and sees a solo woman dressed in some combination of pink and black – that would probably be me.

Richard… you’ll see me coming – I’ll be wearing the bright pink-framed sunglasses… but I won’t be wearing a sombrero! LOL!

LOL! I was a little confused about your "BTW II" 'til I realized you were assuming I was bringing my phone... (I thought "how the heck am I going to get internet access on Split Mountain?") I hadn't thought about bringing my phone 'cause it's heavy and the battery dies so quickly... but maybe if I keep it off 'til I'm at one of those peaks.... Hmmmm...maybe...

I don't know if CalicoCat has left yet... I'll be watching for him as well. (my only clue as to how to recognize him is that he'll be solo with a LOT of camera gear )

* BTW (from me) If anyone is going to be in the Thousand Island Lake area on Friday July 20th, come join us. My sister, Marianne and her husband are joining me for a couple days from Tuolumne Meadows to Thousand Island Lake. There'll be a "new moon" on Thursday, so on Friday the stars will be amazing… and we’re gonna have a “star party”! My sister has been an amateur astronomist for… well forever, and she will do a short laser-guided talk on some of the constellations. The “party” aspect comes in because we’ll have Crown Royal to enjoy while we get to know our fellow hikers.

You aren't one of those BC Technophobes, are you? :-)

I love the fact that (as Calicocat also found out near Rock Creek and peaks in the area) you get some pretty amazing signal bounces in the BC. I find it really fun to post and text from them whenever I find one of these spots.

Rosie came out at Bishop Pass due to an injury that needed to be looked at by a physician. She headed back in a few days later (on horseback) via Kearsarge Pass. Shin and I came across the Packer and found out that he had dropped her off at the sandy meadow a few minutes earlier. He didn't think she would be that far away, so I ran with my pack to the Rae Lakes cut-off, dropped it and went for a south-bound jog on the JMT. I was getting funny looks from the hikers on the trail because all I was carrying was a camera nine-plus miles in from the nearest trailhead.

There was a bit of shock on Rosie's face when she saw me... Way too much fun for me to be able to surprise her.

Looking forward to the climb up to the summit of Whitney this Saturday as she heads for home.

4:00am at the Portal Store tomorrow morning if you've got nothing better to do...

I had run into Rosie early in her trip...crossed paths with her at the Sunrise HSC about a month ago. (pink sunglasses!)
Been following her progress here and although cannot be there tomorrow to welcome her down, wish her most hearty congratulations!
