Oh, Stacy... I'm really sad that you're not going to be able to be there! I was really looking forward to seeing you...I was hoping to catch up on all your wedding plans!!

I'm not on Facebook anymore, so I don't hear a lot of the "talk". Anyway... maybe if you finish up your other committment early, you could stop by! smile

I plan on trying to stop by the Hostel Rosie! Dang it!!! I really wanted to see everyone. Doug rarely asks for help and I feel terrible for not being able to be there when he does. Big time frown

Stacy, I'll be at the Hostel on Friday and Saturday nights. My brother and I will be driving down tonight after work, then we're gonna hike up from Onion Valley on Friday. I doubt if we'll make it all the way up to the pass after driving all night with no sleep, but Barry's never been up there before so we're just going to see how far we feel like going.

We're planning on going up to the Portal for Dinner on Friday, and (of course) we'll be up there all day on Saturday. Not sure what the plan is for Saturday night. I'd love to stop by on the way home but we'll be leaving EARLY on Sunday morning to get back before it gets too late... it takes about 15 hours driving time.

I'm SO looking forward to this weekend! I hope I get to see you. smile

Don't know that I'll be eating dinner there, but if I'm not hanging out at the WPS on Friday evening, call SAR (or just send Doug up to find me).

Looking forward to it.

Hi To be honest I have walked the Portal all week and like a war zone where do you start? Meet with the Campground manager and offered clearing the downed material in the walk-in campsite, This will allow campers back in if we can get it cleared.

Next is the Pond area that so many people just walk around and take pictures of and watch the fish. Might not sound like a big deal but for the older people and young kids it is.

Next the major tree work is done in the Picnic area but the limbs still need cleared and raked.

Brian from the Forest Service had several projects at the trailhead that would direct people on the start of the trail and build up several of the steps near the structure so when we wheel someone down we can exit the last section without jarring the person in the cart.

I know from past Trails Days we can do a lot of work in a short time. So like the story starts.. if not us maybe our grandkids and the grandkids they will have will take the mountain down.

Thanks everyone for coming and we will work out a plan for Saturday night during the day.

Dang, that was a lot of hard work!
I'm tired... But this was a fun day!
Amazing how some people can keep cleaning better than I can keep moving on a trail.

Thanks for the breakfast and lunch to the WPS Crew.
Thanks for the dinner to Rosie. Man that's a long drive to work your butt off.

The Pinic Area and Pond look as good as they ever have.
The Hikers Campgound is mostly clear and a "Free Firewood" sign could take care of quite a bit of the rest of the mess.
8 additional parking spots available in the overflow lot.
Some nice changes at the Trailhead to prevent "shortcutters."

Hi WOW!!!!!! Did a walk around today and we had a 100% finished of the things we had on the BIG LIST . Walk-in Campground back in shape. Trailhead work better than I expected with the blockage of the use trails covered and very large logs lining the trail near the start for direction. The pond and picnic area clean and the downed branches cleared and taken to the landfill.

One of the hardest work days for quite a while. Doug and Dave moved thousands of pounds of timber out of the walk-in site. The groups staying pitched in and help move material and had to reset camp so we could move the logs out, this opened up about half the camp area so now it is full open again.

Rosie and her brothers took the lead on the picnic area and just about 8 AM Johnny and Tom and Magaret arrived. 8 of our friends from the Riverside area helped around the pond and Picnic area.

We had help all day long from people just stopping and offering help . The stump in the back packer was the collection point near sundown. With three straps, about 100 people and 74 different plans we moved the stump off the tent pad and life was good again or is it well?

Brian, Jeff, and Chris lead the Trailhead team and it looked like the most fun part of the day moving the logs and not taking out the bathrooms

Richard did say he was tired and would miss another hike on Sunday !So Thanks everyone for the hard work and the thousands of miles you drove to work so hard one pancake and a look at the Portal. Cayden and Rosie did the final touch ups around the trailhead as a great tem.

Thanks everyone for your help. The portals I guess that is all of US.

We left a little after 3:00 this morning and just got in about an hour ago. We got some weather about half way thru Oregon so it slowed us down a bit.

Barry, Ken and I had so much fun this weekend! It was a whirl-wind trip, but we were all so glad we were able to help out on this project. LOL, I don't think I've been that dirty in a long time... dust, sweat and sunburn!!

I'll post pictures tomorrow... right now I'm just really tired tired

OK… I finally got some time to post some pics and finish the YouTube of the final log move at the trailhead. LOL! I was going to put Monty Python’s “Lumberjack Song” as background music to the video but I was surprised to find that not that many of the guys were familiar with this song!

Anyway, as Richard, Doug (Trailbud), and Dave (Ridgeline) have already stating, it was SUCH a fun day, working with Doug, Brian, and the rest of the crew/volunteers.

FYI - for identification on my pics and the video are Richard (the blue polo shirt and light blue hat), Tom (the white shirt), Jeff(in the brown T-shirt), and my brothers Barry (the blue T-shirt and black hat), and Ken (the plaid shirt). Brian is the Ranger heading up this project, in the uniform.

Stacy, Doug gave me your message Saturday evening and I read it to everyone… we were at the pizza place for dinner. Darn! I wish I would have left message at the desk at the Hostel where we had gone… I would have loved to see you! We'll make a date for this summer!

What an awesome video Rosie (and pics too). Such a long and tedious process to move an object just a short distance. I'm so sorry that we missed out on the day! We'll definitely make a date for this summer smile

We’re finally home and want to say thanks to all involved for the great time we had working the NTD event at the Portal last Saturday. It’s absolutely rewarding working with such a dedicated bunch of people.

Extra special thanks to Earlene, Doug, & the rest of the portal crew for the lodging, and always-great burgers, and also to Richard for that 1st shirt exchange that made Marjean’s day.

For the most part we were way too busy to take many pix on Saturday but here’s one Marjean shot plus a couple we took on Sunday:

Rosie shoots the grunts:

Doug & Cayden fishing on a Sunday morning:

Doug, Cayden, Earlene, & Marjean as we reluctantly left the Portal:

We also hope those unseasonably high temps were down a bit on Tuesday for the splendidly maniacal “oneway” to do his planned, and sun exposed, run up “No Country for Old Men”. He’s mad, quite mad you know, but in the good sense.

Thanks all!

Bill, it was great meeting you, and I had so much fun working with Marjean on our "reclamation" project at the trailhead! We were getting pretty good at throwing bark smile . I hope I see you two up on the mountain again.

Hi Even Earlene had a blue shirt on whats up?
People using the Picnic area, fishing and camping in the backpacker camp ground and only watched one group get through the trailhead mine field. So we are off and running for another year just waiting for next years NTD Again thnks everyone for your hard work. Doug Jr Earlene and Cali for covering the store all day while we got out plus Thomas and his crew taking loads to the landfill and cleaning around the pond this week.

Several days ago our best friends stayed two days. They were the Campground managers .We hiked and worked together the time they were here and after they left. Jim wired the Hostel and Patty is a soulmate to all of us. I say it many times but it is the simple things we share that is so special about being here. Thank You Doug
