Five years ago, Kurt simply told me, "I think you'd do great in Bishop!" His was the last opinion I sought before moving to this small town in the rain shadow of grand mountains. I never regretted taking his sage advice.

And now he is almost done packing for another grand adventure to the roof of the world.

Only he doesn't quite have a duffel big enough for me:

"It's always further than it looks.
It's always taller than it looks.
And it's always harder than it looks."
-- The 3 rules of mountaineering.

Be safe up there, my friend. I can't wait for the next happy hour to swap stories.

Love from the Moose Lodge,
L cool

Though I leave on the opposite coast, I fell in love with your "little town" in 2009... it's just like the one I grew up in, but Bishop has mountains!

Best wishes to Kurt as he is about to depart for Everest.
The Executive Director of our local Metro Parks (John) is also departing the same day from Columbus, Ohio. Turns out John and Kurt are on the same permit, even though with different guide companies.

Safety, joy and fulfillment to them both as they attempt this mother of all summits (for John, his first time; for Kurt, his third time, I think).

... yah, but if you had long hair it would insulate and keep your head warmer, wouldn't it? You can't get much lower maintenance than pull it back in a ponytail (I just like long hair, thats all smile )

ANYWAY... have a great trip, Kurt, I look forward to hearing about this next upcoming adventure!

You now look like my younger and (much) taller brother... (I have a buzzed head most of the time now, but it's often hidden under a hat to keep the bare spots from blinding people when the sun is shining.)

Good Luck, safe travels and climbing over there... Wish I could join you for the walk in and a visit to the Western Cwm... it has been way too long.

Reading some press releases leads me to believe it should be a real interesting year over there... at least a couple of expeditiions dedicated to prepping for 50 years since we (the US - back in the day it was a national event) had teams reach the summit in '63.
