Predictive text + no reading glasses = stupid post.
Sorry.
Hope this one is better.

Adding to what Tom added to the subject line: Doug and the rest of the Portal crew make the Whitney experience that much richer.

Merry Christmas!

Just a minute... Just a minute. Now, hold on… You're right when you say Doug Thompson is no businessman. I know that. Why he ever started this cheap, penny-ante Portal and Store, I'll never know. But neither you nor anyone else can say anything against his character, because his whole life was... why, in the 24 years since he and his wife, Earlene, started this thing, he never once thought of himself. But he did help a few people get last minute supplies for hiking, camping, and fishing… And what's wrong with that? And when hikers had just come down from Mt. Whitney, he served them burgers, so they wouldn’t have to wait till they got back to town. Wait? Wait for what? Do you know how hungry a 22-mile roundtrip makes you? And for people still contemplating hiking, he provided information needed, and updates regarding conditions on the mountain. And the poor climbing rabble... Well, is it too much for them to have a decent room and a bath at the Hostel? Anyway, Doug didn't think so. People are human beings to him!
