The mountain is alive.
BBC,Baldy Breakfast Club, had a Baldy hike on last Sunday and
witnessed two avalanches in action. One in the Bowl and other in left long chute of San Antonio fall. We started after 7:15-30 am and the snow was firm and solid but as we getting up to Ski hut it got soft and wet. We avoided to traverse at the bottom of west Bowl in Rock Garden to the ridge. The main section of Bowl was out of question, it is too unstable. We took east Bowl up to the summit because it looked very stable and never heard there was any avalanche activities in the past. As we coming down a few of us witnessed an avalanche in the Bowl. We witnessed another one near the fall.
There were many tracks of large snow balls coming down the slopes.

The mountain is alive even though they don't say much. It is our job to read their minds. When they move, they won't give us any warning in advance.

Please look NormaR and Frank's video for the hike.

We were careful and alert so we were able to enjoy the hike.

My pictures are on my WPSMB photo album link.

Hi Shin,
I was up on Baldy on Sunday and climbed up Register Ridge because of the suspect conditions. I noticed 4 avalanches in the area: One on the slope behind Manker Flat, one above San Antonio Falls, one on the West side of the bowl and one on the East side of Register Ridge (Manker Canyon). I descended the far East side of the bowl, where the trees are cool

Avi in the bowl:

Shin,

Well said...Mike, I saw those and great pix. Check out all the people playing just below the avi across from Manker. There was another avi in the next chute towards the ski lift.

Hi Mike,
Sorry to miss you. We were originally considering the Register Ridge trail but Ryan wanted to try the chute in the Bowl so we went on Ski hut trail.
Ryan told us later that the snow condition of upper part of chutes in the Bowl was very poor so he turned around.
I was talking to Norma about you and fun memories of Iceberg lake snow field of last years MR hike.

My son "Yeti" will teach me some new skills in JT this weekend.
It is nice to try something new for a change.

The snow condition Mt. Baldy will be worsen by next few days of high temperature.

Hope to see you soon.

Mike, nice photos, really crisp, can see the avis clearly. Is that a big SLR type camera or a pocket type? Like the clarity.

Shin: I might see you this weekend. It's looking like Wes and I will be in JT also.

Jeff, Shin,& Mike (and Wes) We will miss you guys in JTree this weekend. We were scheduled to go out with Shin's "son" Yeti on Friday morning, but Curt sold his house and we ended up with a 30 day escrow, so we have to spend the time moving! eek
I hope everyone has fun and we will be out there next time.
Maybe we will see you guys on Baldy in a few weeks...
Take care,
Stacy

Hi Cindy,
Sorry to hear about your ankle. Everyone needs some rest.
Please read some books to keep your mind occupied.
Don't get wrong idea like training for wheel chair marathon.
Take care.
