There is a wonderful article about Elizabeth Hawley in Outside Magazine this month. I'm curious to know if any of you who have climbed Mt. Everest ever had a chance to meet Ms. Hawley.

I haven't climbed Everest, but I have spent time with her in Kathmandu. She likes to get to know everybody who climbs over there.

Thanks for both of these links.

87... I was going to say she has to be getting up there in years, as she seemed to be in her late seventies when I met her well more than a dacade ago.

I had the pleasure of meeting Ms Hawley a few times prior to a few separate expeditions to Cho Oyu Autumn 2000, Ama Dablam Winter 2000, and Island and Mera Peaks last century. She likes to meet as many people as possible and usually meets w expedition leader both before and after the trips to understand objectives versus accmplishments. For an observer she has a keen sense of whats going on in the mountains.

I would agree. Here she is in action before our spring 2008 Everest expedition.

Kurt, this is a great picture of Elizabeth Hawley. Is that you in the blue shirt?

It's awesome to learn that so many people on this site and the WZ have met Ms. Hawley. I'm still hoping to hear if Cindy Abbott met Ms. Hawley. I did find Cindy Abbott's name in The Himilayan Database which Harvey Lankford posted in an above-post. I found her name in the Season Lists for Spring 2010. I believe the time she summited is posted along with the date she summited.

Hi Lynn

Hawley's opus is archival through 2003 so Cindy would not be there.

As you stated, Cindy is on the separate season list 2010, MAy 23 at 9:00

Hi Everyone,

Sorry I haven't been around frown We have an income tax business and I barely have time to go to the bathroom! I scheduled in time to climb Baldy and every time it snowed - a lot!

No, I didn't met her. Our group was interviewed by Billie B. (forgot her last name) she was hired to go to each group/climber and collect all kinds of data. I think it's great that Ms Hawley keeps track of this information.

You all take care and I will check in later smile

PS I am working on doing something really extreme for Rare Disease Day 2012 - more later smile
