I visited the store in 2009 and was told they no longer offer showers.

Hi, The whitney Portal Store has one shower, for $3 per person. We do not supply soap or towels at the Store.
However, The Whitney Portal Hostel in Lone Pine has 5 public showers(seperate stalls), for $5 per person including a towel and bar soap.
Hope this helps

oh oh oh.....this could change my plans a bit...

couple of very important questions:

1. Does the shower have hot water? Muy importante!
2. What time does the shower open?

Of course, assuming summertime dates....

Hi,
Yes the shower at the store and showers at the Hostel all have hot water. As far as what time the shower will be open, varies, some days the store is open from 8am to 8pm other times its 9am to 6pm.Depending on the season.

Safe Travels

Katy, please.....expand on what's happened in the showers!!!!

I find a nice dip in the creek a nice refreshing way to numb your body after a hike, especially your feet. Doesn't last long either. And, everyone thinks you're crazy.
