I don't usually sign petitions but I'll add my name to this one. Laura's postings over the years have been inspiring and funny.

My first trip up Whitney I ran into Laura just above the portal, she on her way up to LPL "stretching her legs"... Daughter and I on our way down from a night at trail camp. We both recognized Laura right away though we had never met her in person. It's a rare person that makes such a vivid impression in writing that she is recognizable in person from it. Laura is a wonderful personality and I miss her very much on this board.... My vote is for Moose posts!

Yes, and they're wonderful - but nowhere near the frequency of her TRs when she was on the boards regularly. I miss those Mondays (or occasionally Tuesdays) when the previous weekend's MooseTracks adventure would pop up. Guaranteed to be a great read, especially for those of us who live the Sierra vicariously 49 or 50 weeks a year.

My eleven year old daughter Brianne was visiting with one of her friends the other day. They were flipping through some disgustingly banal tween celebrity magazine, and her friend said, "Who do you think is the coolest person in California?" Without hesitation, Bri answered, "Moosie!" Her friend looked at her like she'd grown a second head, and asked her to repeat herself. "Oh, sorry", Bri said. "I meant MooseTracks" . . .

From the mouths of babes . . .

(Doug, she's just as likely to answer "Doug!" when asked that question. I'm just not sure if she means Sr. or Jr. . . .)

She might just not have the time anymore to post lengthy reports. And, well, you definitely get criticized a lot when you post stuff. I could care less but I'm sure it gets to some people.

Very true luciano, and Laura's certainly seen more than her share here. It's a shame, because she is an inspiration to a lot of us and one helluva fine person to boot. I miss seeing her energy and positivity here, and elsewhere, on a regular basis.

I was having some off-line chat recently with a board member I have a ton of respect for, and he pointed out that there are two types of personalities that create volatility in a board like this: the folks who think anything attempted below their personal achievement level is wussiness, and those who think anything attempted above their personal achievement level is sheer idiocy (or, in some cases, both) - the baseline being someone's self-view as a benchmark of others. I thought that was incredibly succinct and on the mark. Laura has always struck me as the type who doesn't pass judgment on others' results, despite all that she has accomplished. The personal effort put forth within someone's skill range seems to be her standard, and I'm in complete agreement.

In the end, it's all about having a good time! I like to push myself but enjoy an easy day as well. I just like to get out there and feel alive and that's what it's all about (for me at least) !

Absolutely - it's not a job, it's recreation. We may have goals, but as Mr. Positive Attitude is always reminding us - HAVE FUN!
