Hey guys,

It looks like a bunch of you went up Baldy this past Saturday (12/4). Well, KTLA is reporting a 49-year old Asian woman, Michelle Yu, failed to return from her day hike on Saturday, may have fallen and was not prepared for the storm that came. Her car was parked by Manker Flat. Rescue crews have been searching for her. Other hikers reported hearing screams from a canyon, but did not know what direction.

Does anyone from the hike remember seeing such a woman or would have any other info to help the rescuers? Tracks in the snow in an odd place, conditions, etc.? If so, I'd call the authorities immediately.

Here's the story:

Just passing this on and hoping for the best for Ms. Yu and her family,
Jason

This thread is already tracking her

SAR Twitter has been unusually quiet. They asked for more alpine qualified searchers this morning

Hope she turns up okay. The last several searches have been successful on Mt Baldy.

Oh whoops, didn't see the other thread. Thanks.

I live in Santa Monica, and have to work tomorrow, but I'm almost tempted to drive up there tonight and help with the rescue. I'm not SAR qualified though, so I guess there's not a whole lot I could do.

I'm glad folks on here saw she seemed experienced and dressed appropriately, then there's more hope.

The news report is a bit inaccurate (not a big surprise) but SAR didn't begin until late in the day on Sunday. On our way down the fire road at around 2:30pm the Forest Service had just arrived and the San Bernardino Sheriff as well and were getting ready but no SAR on site yet. They had essential no information other than it was an Asian woman possibly missing, but didn't know for sure.

The weather was just beginning to turn for the worse, but the temps were not terribly low so hopefully she was able to stay warm enough.
