Planning on summiting Mt. Sill via Bishop Pass next weekend Sept 11. Any condition reports (snow/ice) are welcome.

There will be a random patch or two of snow but nothing that'll require ice axe/crampons or require you to alter your route. Here's a picture of Mt. Sill from Polemonium Peak on August 23:

Kurt,

Thanks for the quick reply. Fantastic pic! Want to also do the traverse from Sill to Polemonium....rating? easy class 4 or hard class 4?, rope needed?

BTW, welcome home from Elbrus and Kili great pics (I WANT to do Elbrus, have done Kili).

Most of the ground between Sill and Polemonium is class 2. As you leave Sill there will be a little bit of 3rd class. Getting to the top of Polemonium involves a small section that's 4th class. The moves are all there but it's pretty exposed on both sides. I just traversed this area recently. Here's the entire photo gallery from North Palisade to Sill on August 23. The photo gallery also has a link to a blog about the trip. Picture 196 is taken at the U Notch before starting up Polemonium. Here's a photo showing some of the exposure. The traverse isn't long... maybe 80' - 100' but there's a pretty good drop on both sides.

Thanks Mike! We had another excellent trip to Africa in June. When you're ready to do Mt. Elbrus get in touch. We go there most years. It's a great trip that usually exceeds people's expectations by quite a bit. I'd love to see you join us the next time we go!
