Hi, This is my first post. I believe I have met some of you during my Mt. Everest training climbs on Baldy. I also used Whitney and the Alabama Hills to train. Anyway, I summited the south side of Mt. Everest on May 23rd! I have not hiked since leaving Everest base camp but I am ready to hit the trail this weekend - I hope. Sunday my husband and I will be on the summit of Baldy around 930AM: If I have enough muscle-mass left from the extremes of Everest. You can look at some pictures in my photo gallery at www.reachingbeyondtheclouds.com Hope to see some of you.

Hi Jeff, My hubby's name is Larry and he is in amazing shape for being 65! When I decided to climb Everest he became my training partner. In December we are returning to give Mt. Aconcagua a second try: too high winds last time. Thanks on the Everest congrats That was a difficult climb - but oh so amazing!

Cindy! Congrats on Everest (and so much more). Your story is beyond inspirational! The best to you in continuing to stabilize your Wegener's Granulomatosis disease. And good luck to you and your husband on your 2nd attempt of Aconcagua. I have my sights set on that mountain also.

Hi Cindy, Congratulations on your Mt. Everest climb. I have met you a few times on Mt. Baldy when you were training. I met Larry on 3rd of July at the Mt. Baldy summit. His name was Larry and he was 65 years old. He was in super fine shape with super fine time. He must be your husband? Now you are the 5th person I met on Mt. Baldy who climbed Mt. Everest. You are real inspiration to everyone. Shin

Congratulations on summiting Everest, Cindy!!
I met you on Baldy the week before you left for Everest. You blew past me on your way up and down, and I was still on my way up! Just want to say what an inspiration you are! Good luck with your treatment and the upcoming attempt on Aconcagua!

Hi Evereyone Thanks for all your congratulations! It was an amazing three-year journey from deciding to train for Everest, going blind in one eye, being dianosed and treated for WG, and have two surgries because I broke my leg. All the while I kept training. And it worked. Climbing Baldy also every weekend was a great way to stay in shape. Anyone going on Sunday? Cindy

Hi Cindy, I'll see you on Sunday around 9:30 at the summit. Looking forward to seeing both of you.
I am very happy to hear that you mentioned publically about the importance of training on Mt. Baldy every weekend.
I hike Mt. Baldy regularly. Unfortunately in my case,my training ground became my hiking destination.
If I ever won the Lotto, I may consider climbing Mt. Everest for the record of "THE OLDEST MAN on MT EVEREST". I have to keep on hiking Mt Baldy next 20 more years to challenge the record.
See you on Sunday.

OK It begins Here. The road to sponsoring Shin. We should all start sponsoring Shin now and then in 20 years pay for him to do it! If anyone can do it it's Shin!

The Shin to Everest fund!
Great idea and it will take about that long to collect enough money! It is very expensive. The permit on the Nepal side (south) is $10,000 per climber! My total cost with the special gear, just for Everest not training mountains, was $80,000. But it was worth it. We had a safe trip with lots of oxygen and Sherpa support. And most importantly: The best cook on the mountain!!!!!!
Shin, you could be the oldest American to summit in 14 years! Right now Bill from Costa Mesa holds the record at 68 years old.
See you Sunday, but I may be a little slow - I have not hiked since Everest.

He is going for a new record: the 1st person to ascend/descend on the north side in Tibet and then travel to Nepal to ascend/descend on the south side! Bill was just granted special permission for a permit by the Chinese... The Chinese had just placed age restrictions this year on North (Tibet) side climbs. Under the CTMA regulations, no one under the age of 18, or over the age of 60, will receive a permit to climb Mt. Everest from the North side. Story here .

Shin will have to wait awhile to be the oldest to summit Baldy. I don't know for sure but the most "experienced" individual I have personally run into on the summit was 81 years old. That's pretty impressive...

Good for Bill. We meet him at our hotel in Kathmandu after the climb. He seems like a nice person and I wish him the best. Does Bill train on Baldy?

Shin, I think you mentioned that you were going to climb Baldy on Saturday for your 200th summit. Warning: We were told at the notch and the ticket trailer that they are expecting around 600 visiters on Saturday around 9 AM. They are even going to open chair lift 4 to allow people to ride part way to the summit and hike from there. I just checked the website and nothing is posted but two different people that work there told us the same thing. Anyone thinking of climbing Baldy on Saturday should call and verify this - could be huge crowd.

Hi Cindy, It was so nice to see you again on Mt.Baldy. Bob,Kristine and I were overwhelmed with stories about your Mt. Everest climb. The stories had such a convincing reality to us about deadly Mt. Everest because we knew how hard you had been training and how strong you were before your climb. I am looking forward to hearing about your Mt. Everest book. Thank you for coming back your old training ground. Your husband Larry is a nice gentleman and strong hiker. Good luck on South America trip.
See you on the trail.
Shin P.S. Thank you very much for the event information on 24th.

In the words of the immortal Lily Von Schtupp, "It's twoo, it's twoo". http://sites.google.com/site/worldpeacepilgrimage/Chair 4 lift is operating (up only) from 9:30 until 12:00, $25 for both lifts.
