Hello fellow hikers.
My friend's and I did a day hike of Mt. Whitney on July 2nd. I'm not going to go into great detail, but I did not summit. I stopped at the cable section due to too much snow. Almost everyone else went past the cables with no problem, but it was beyond my comfort zone. I'm afraid of heights and especially falling. One slip of the right foot and you would fall down a long ways. I was disappointed I did not summit, but I did enjoy talking to all the hikers climbing up the switchbacks as I hiked back down to Trail Camp to wait for my friends - for five hours! Perhaps you saw me sitting on the rock.
One of my friends came back down at 4 PM and so we hiked back down and got to the Portal at 7:30. The three of my friends that did summit at 2PM got back after 9:30. We started at 3:20AM.
I don't think I'll try another day hike. Three years ago we did summit on an overnight trip and that was much more fun.
Below is a link to my photos and a video I took at the cable section.
