So it looks like the drainage is clear to LBS then snow above that? Did you guys use snowshoes? Heading up in 2 weeks, do you think we'll need them then?
We're actually heading over to Fishhook on Russell, how's the snow around Iceberg, need crampons?
Thanks!!
Paul
Paul,
Yes, it’s dry up to LBSL (except for the wet stream crossings)
No snowshoes & no need for them.
Currently UBSL and Iceberg lake are frozen over. There's running water at Clyde Meadow and I suspect running water is available at UBSL
In 2 weeks, I suspect the snow will much more consolidated and you’d probably only need crampons in the early morning or on some shady slopes. That said, it’s always hard to predict what the Sierra God can throw at you; she can be fickle.
I believe Kurt’s group may have cut the first boot track down the slope from Whitney-Russell col to Iceberg Lake. I suspect this last warm weekend it offered some 1st class postholing.
Good luck on Fishy. That’s I my to-do list as well
Cheers,
Rick G
