I have found Diamox very useful for sleeping. I frequently suffer Cheyne-Stokes breathing at high altitude and that pretty much ruins my sleep. When I take Diamox, that problem goes away. I do have to get up and pee several times at night, but that's pretty typical for me at altitude even when I'm not taking Diamox.

Taking Diamox for severe AMS? That seems like too little, too late.

EP > If you experience severe Cheyne-Stokes breathing, Diamox in fact can bring relief. It all boils down to your individual tolerance of Diamox and a general approach in Mountaineering.

Except for HAPE & HACE, Diamox works actually very well for AMS. Descending quickly is the best medication and never go higher with a severe headache!

Sleeping aids are actually highly discouraged by most MD's that are specializing in high altitude medicine.

Diamox can be a good way to minimize AMS when previous ascents show a susceptibility to AMS.

And yes, Diamox is a diuretic and you need to drink even more water to make up for the additional water loss.
