Casey, I can do Conness on my way back on Sat. the 10th - I'll meet you around Saddlebag Lake the night before (I'll bring my cell so we can firm up arrangements around the 7th, 8th, or 9th).
Mescalito, shoot for Shepherds's Pass I'd say - this is a first for me too.

Anvil Camp is lower (10,000ish). If you don't have a problem sleeping higher, then I think Shepherd's Pass would be the better option.

took me 8 hrs to hike to anvil (heavy pack with winter gear) about 3 wks ago (mem day weekend) and another 4hr to get to top of shepherd pass the next day - crampons needed.(day pack). Seven more hours round trip SPass-Tyndall-SPass. It is a very long day to summit Tyndall from AC, and even longer to do Willy from there.

Casey - I've been a bit discombobulated lately (spending most of the last several nights in hospital - wife with diverticulitis at CCH) - so yes, back to Willy on 10 or 11 (and we'll do Conness another time on the weekend) -I'll be doing WMP on 7th, then picking up permit for Willy ahead of and waiting for you. We'll firm up the details soon (by 7/2 or so)

Tony,
I'm sorry to hear that. Is she going to be okay? Is there anything I can do?

About how long does it take to hike to Shepherd Pass, at a moderate pace with a 45-pound backpack?

Thanks, we'll probably start hiking at around 4:30 in the morning on July 11, so that we can get to Shepherd Pass at a reasonable time.

One week to go. Who's still in? I'm planning on heading up to Anvil Camp on Saturday. I'm thinking of getting an early start (12 to 1 a.m.) and heading up the pass. I'm only going to have time for williamson.
Tony---are you still in?

I'm heading up for another Williamson-Tyndall trip on the 14th or 15th. I'll appreciate any reports on snow coverage. I barely squeaked by without crampons and ice axe last year, and I would like to leave them in the car again. Thanks.

snowmanrn:
Four of us from Las Vegas will be there on July 11-13. Our tentative schedule is Shepherd Pass on July 11, Williamson on July 12, and Tyndall on July 13. See you somewhere along the way.

Hey snowmanrn, I'm planning on heading up the pass on the 9th or 10th, probably the 10th. I might do an acclimation hike out of onion valley on the 9th. Hopefully I'll be doing williamson and tyndall sunday and monday. What's your plan?

Mescalito345: I prefer Shepherd Pass because I like to sleep as high as possible and there are fewer bugs. However, if you are coming from Las Vegas, you may not sleep well at 12,000 feet your first night out. I would see how much daylight and energy you have left when you get to Anvil Camp and make your decision there.

Brent,
I don't have time to do both Tyndall and Willi. I was planning on driving down Friday night. I was going to hike up to Anvil Camp on early Saturday and get an alpine start for the summit of Willi. on Sunday. Would that work for you? You could hit up Tyndall on the way out. Give me a ring if you can. My number is 559-353-4417.

Bob, thanks for the advice. When I camp at Whitney Portal (8400 feet) and then hike up to Trail Camp (12300 feet), I have no trouble getting to sleep. On this trip, I'll be sleeping at around 6300 feet, before starting to hike.
I'm not sure about my hiking partners. If we do stop at Anvil Camp, what would be the schedule for the next two days, if we intend to try both Williamson and Tyndall?
