Me: "So sweetheart, what do you want to do for Mother's Day."

My wife: "Oh, I dunno. I was thinking . . . maybe . . ."

Me: "Yes?"

My wife: "Supposed to be a nice day. Maybe we could go into the mountains and hike? Have a picnic?"

Am I the luckiest guy in the world or what?! Happy Mother's Day to all you multi-tasking Moms out there!

Thanks! And, how about us Grandmas, as well? Come July, my hubby is taking me to Trail Camp to celebrate my 66th birthday...and then on to the summit the next day. He's already helped me get there 16 times in the last 20 years...hauled extra stuff in his pack, so mine's not so heavy, & even carried them both (took his down/ came back & got mine) when I had some difficulty on the trail. How lucky am I ?!!

Happy Mother's Day to everyone!
Randuf when in July are you and your husband going up Whitney?
I will be there during the 1st week of July. Trying to do what I can to get in better shape (cardio/endurance). I am on the east coast so I can't work on high altitude so I plan to spend some time in the Sierras before the Whitney hike.

Muttdog, Our permit is for Thursday, July 8. We plan to camp at Outpost the first night, then Trail Camp the 2nd night, before going to the summit on Sat. We have several newbies, including 1 coming in from Maine. We've found going slow is the best way to avoid altitude problems. Besides, we're not "spring chicks" anymore!
We don't live at altitude, either. Altho' here is So. CA, we can be at altitude pretty quickly. We're hauling our packs on our 3 mile walk in the hills every evening, & adding more weight every few days. We'll do some dayhikes up Mt. San Jacinto & San Gorgonio as the trails begin to clear of snow.
