I've been following the story all day and continue to hope for the best. They were doing a difficult route on the north side, and retreating would never be easy, as opposed to just sitting on your butt and sliding down the gultch. Unfortunately storms on Shasta can are very differant than those in the Sierra, since it sticks out of the surrounding area like a sore thumb; I have even once been on or near the summit in the sunshine while a winter storm raged 2000 ft below me.

I'm editing this because I think my comments came out as critical when really I was feeling frustrated and worried for the stranded climber. I hope he's OK.

Brent, I talked to Mark this morning, the climber that made it down. Send me an email. We can talk. If you could do me a huge favor and remote this post, that would be great. Just don't want this type of thread to deteriorate into a sh!t pile, like it always does.

Thanks,

Kevin Trieu

In deference to friends and family of those involved who might be reading this, I'd suggest we refrain from speculating and making critical comments.

Our morning paper carried the sad news about Thomas Bennett. RIP
