Not knowing is starting to get to me !!

I put in to the lottery for just one date, for an overnight permit for three people in the middle of August, for a Thursday thru Sunday stay, during the big meteor shower.

A buddy of mine put in for an overnight permit for two for any of five dates.

A second friend put in for, basically, "any five day period, July thru September, for eight people.

They both have recieved their "Sorry, but..." letters, one last Saturday, the other Monday. So far, I haven't gotten any thing in the mail.

I have repeatedly (not hourly, but close) checked my credit card statement on line for any hits, but have seen nothing.

I guess no news is good news. Good luck to all of you who are also waiting to hear.

Gotta go check my CC statement again.....

Just got off the phone with Ann of the Wilderness Permit office in Bishop - as usual, always a fun and informative conversation with this non-stop group... anyway, she said they just completed the Whitney lottery selections...
Looking for an alternate access to Whitney, 760-873-2483 - know 3 things - number in your party, dates of your hike, and point of entry/exit (have your plan and back-up plans thought out before you call)...

I sent my application for a permit on February 17th. And yesterday, April 3, I got my treasured day hike permit for August. I look forward to seeing all the other lucky hikers that day and Mt Whitney sure looked good today crowned in clouds and glowing in the setting sun.

Our group got lucky and we received our acceptance letter todaY. But with more applications this year for the lottery, we got our second choice for the first time. Hey, 1st choice or 2nd choice, it does not matter. We'll be there on the summit of Whitney on July 21st. I will be coming back for my 12th trip to the summit. Hope to see many of my friends there, and I am now looking forward to the Portal restaurant and that awesome Mooseburger and fries! Whitney Mike
