Mt. Whitney Portal Store & Hostel Forums General Winter Access Forum Highest MR Camp during Winter?

Was wondering what the highest camp people setup during winter when climbing the MR. I read on another route about a guy a few years back who bivy'd on top in January. I plan on soloing the MR the last weekend in March or first weekend in April, along with Russell, maybe Muir depending what my schedule is like.

I had planned at setting up camp at either UBSL or Iceberg, but now that I read that I'm wondering if anyone has heard of higher camps, perhaps even the summit? I've done a few winter nights above the tree-line on Mt. Washington with my NF Mountain 25 and was wondering how that would compare. Any info would be great. Thanks.

Really? Bivy? Did he have a thread or post any pics? I'll prob end up setting up camp at Iceberg Lake, going up Whitney, and then either do Muir or Russell the next day. Any suggestions or input on doing either of those after the MR?

I camped at Iceberg Lake last April. One day to camp, one day to summit Whitney, Muir, and Russell, and one day out.

I once did a winter bivy at the Russell-Carillon saddle ~13,200.
