Arthur got a chance to boogie north for the Holiday weekend, so I made sure to fit in as much fun and silliness as possible. It was a multi-sport trifecta with me and my friends, and Arthur just blended right in.

Friday, we hit the slopes at Mammoth and basically cruised most of the mountain, trying to stay one step ahead of the crowds. I could hardly believe that he hadn't been on his board for over two years. Pics.

After meeting up with Kevin, Wendy, Scott, and Hakno Friday night, we cruised north to Lee Vining Canyon to swing at some ice. Arthur was a natural!!!

Pics are here and here .

Sunday we meandered south after a big breakfast at the Moose Lodge, heading for the Hoodgie Wall in the A-Hills. Kevin led Leonosphere (5.7**), Ankles Away (5.8****), and Hoodgie (5.7***) and we all took our turns cruising the rock. Pics. On both Saturday and Sunday I made sure to clean one of the top anchors to practice breaking them down properly and then rappell off. A bit tricky with crampons!

A fantastic start to 2010. Thanks, Arthur, for coming up here and playing! Thanks to Kevin for some great ice and rock leads.

Looks like you climbed the Main Falls - Left Flow or Center Flow WI4 - correct? Not much ice yet; hopefully it will improve by March. Did you look at the Bard-Harringto Wall?

Hey! It's good to see a "peak-bagger" graduating to something more challenging...LOL.

Bob, not sure of the ratings there, but our group was focused on the left side with three TRs on the main wall, one down below from the chains near where the stretcher is kept. There were a lot of different options for heading up, and I don't think any of us overlapped much!

B-H wall looked pretty dry still:

Doug Nydiver was leading Spiral Staircase on the left side of the Wall with a client, but it looked fairly thin. You might see if he's reported on it on his website.

Oh, and silly you: the peakbagging bug is alive and well. Skill-gathering for some more unique approaches is part of the fun! I have to say I'm getting a little spoiled on staying on the rock/ice. Scree slogs just don't hold the appeal they used to... wink

Laura, we climbed on Chounard Falls. WI3+ on the left side and WI3- on the right. The main wall has one continuous line which is WI4 which we didn't climb. Bard Harrington is completely dry and will stay that way unless there's outside prevention.
