Staying motivated during (even before) the second ascent was tough. Most of that seemed to be related to lack of sleep (only about 1:45 before the start).

Regarding food after: Are you kidding? I was asleep within five minutes of hitting the passenger seat. Breakfast the next morning at the store was extra fine.

m.c., looking forward to some fun snow climbs this winter/spring.

We were very consistent. I looked at our times and the first ascent (by my watch) was ~5:10. The second ascent (by my camera) was ~5:09.

Two more ascents will get me to 20x for the year. I had been thinking that I'd like to get to 25 for the year, but I don't think that will happen.

I've got captions on the photos now.

After my first double at age 56, I said OK do'nt need to that again. I guess I forget the pain each year and come back for more. Six total doubles and hopefully two more before I hit the 100 summit total.

I wonder why they call crazy Jack ???

See you on the trail!

You and RK were both a large part of the conversations at breakfast on Sunday morning. Yes, both of you are certified. cool

I still have one more Double on the list... maybe two if that new crazy guy Rafael invites me along on his next attempt to do Lone Pine Campground to the summit twice in a day.

More likely to do another double than another Hostel to Summit hike.

I'd rather hike from the Hostel to Jake's Saloon and order a double...

Richard,

If I attempt a double from Lone Pine Campground to the summit it will be next summer. It is too cold for me now. I have to agree that it is tough to get motivated for a second attempt. When my last attempt failed I was almost glad that the weather was the factor. It gave me a good and reasonable excuse to throw in the towel for the day. Hopefully next summer I will be a little stronger and faster. If you join me on a double you would have to slow to my pace. For you that might be like sleep walking. ; )

Rafael..

Those Whitney doubles are very impressive, and somewhat inspiring too. In fact, they inspired me to write an entry about them in my new blog.

Sam, Jack Northham was the inspiration for all of us. Jim Freeland planned the MR Double that we did. I just followed his rear end up a couple times. That day would have ended at one if he wasn't so motivated to get number two done.

Thanks for the mention in your blog. I think it's driven some additional traffic to my photo website.
