I'm amazed at all the communication about machinery that helps you all break the traffic laws. As I told my retired cop husband as we watch people pass on the right, speed, blow thru stop signs, pass on double yellows, tailgate, et al, I want to suggest that the broke State of California cease and desist manufacturing traffic signs. You'll save Billion$. Nobody honors the law anyway.

BTW,does radar detect that big buck deer that's about to spring out of the side the road in front of you doing 90 mph?

Sherry, people with hi-tech equipment don't necessarily drive at 90 mph. Mine helps keep me honest, reminds me to slow down. And sometimes it saves me a lot of agony when I stray a little above the posted limit.

But there is no way I could drive, as you suggest, at 50-55 for long distances after a hike. I'd be one of those rollovers who fell asleep at the wheel.

...and for the record, I haven't had an accident in almost 40 years.

friendowl,

Definitely sounds like something fishy was going on. Especially since you mentioned that the second officer searched your vehicle. Good luck sorting it all out.

Exactly, and Bobcat apparently can't (or doesn't) read accurately since I specifically stated I drive 70 MPH, not 90 MPH. I might add I am passed by the vast majority of vehicles driving faster than 70 MPH.

I would hit the elk driving at 50 MPH or 150 MPH. Funny, in 30 years of driving nearly every weekend from LA to Mammoth May-Nov. I have never seen a buck on 395.

I said I have had 14 tickets on 395 and only complained about the one egregious one where the CHP officer lied and said I was doing 90+. I don't complain about the supposed inequity of countless others driving 95+ MPH and I don't see them getting pulled over. When you speed on 395, you'll eventually get ticketed. I accept it. I do NOT accept the CHP officers there artificially inflating numbers from 71 MPH to 92 MPH to pad their coffers.

Candace and friendowl, I got to thinking about the 90 mph tickets and the CHP radar units...

I'm not sure about their units, but I do know that some units report the speed of the highest vehicle in their range. And the range is well over a quarter mile, and may even extend slightly out of sight around a curve or over a hill.

Since the 395 is a more sparsely traveled highway, it seems to me that while you are approaching the CHP vehicle, there just might be another one in the radar's range, but the officer is looking at you in his immediate view.

And anyone doing 90 is probably using a detector, and hits the brakes before the officer even notices.

But Zap! You're the target. And good luck.
