Am I the only one who is missing Laura's reports of her weekly adventures? The last I saw from her was OVER MY DEAD BODY in reference to a tram on Whitney. I live vicariously through your trail reports, Moosie! Helps keep my sanity here in the asphalt jungle. Are you lost? Do we need to send a search party?

With all of the interest here, why not take up a collection and buy her a nice sat phone? It can weigh as much as a lead brick -- she won't care! cool She can phone in reports to a new MooseWatch site. It'll be the hottest thing on the Web! The Scotch whiskey ads alone guarantee a nice revenue stream! grin

By the way, I'm glad to hear some hint that she's ok. When she said "over my dead body" and then there was no tram, I presumed the worst.

You can always check her Spot Messenger page. (She includes the link in her signature.)

From that, you can see she climbed White Mountain on Sunday, and on Saturday, she started at 3 am at Onion Valley, climbed over Kearsarge and Glenn Pass, and visited Rae Lakes, returning to Onion Valley by 6 PM.

With that schedule, its no wonder she doesn't have time to write!

So sorry, Alan. smile

Maybe you should give her a Sat phone that has a Twitter feed ...and photo upload capabilities, too!

We could even set up WPSMB with a MooseWatch feature.

It would be more popular than the web cam.

So what treat did I miss at White Mt summit? I thought the saying was "a day late" not a day early to miss something!

The reports of my demise have been greatly exaggerated. I've been a little busy...

Summit of Cathedral:

High above Humphreys Basin on Wahoo Peak:

Leaving a little something for the Sierra Challenge gang:

Been some great weekend adventures. Dave, I was SO sad to miss you and Doug at Grandview Saturday night. Treat was leftover pizza, Diet Coke, and homemade cookies at the summit of White.

Eastern Sierra Moose Spotted in Yosemite
August 8, 2009

The unique Eastern Sierra Moose was spotted today at the top of one of Yosemite's classic spires, Eichorn Pinnacle, on Cathedral Peak. Although this one-of-a-kind animal can primarily be observed roaming the eastern slopes and passes of the Sierra Nevada range between Tioga Pass and Mt. Whitney, she apparently ventured westward to sample the granite obstacles of the enchanting Yosemite back country.

Authorities have planted a satellite tracking device in her pack hoping to keep better apprised of her travels, as since she appears to be expanding her habitat in an ever-widening radius of the Bishop area.

If you happen to spot this rare animal, authorities at Whitney Portal Hostel would appreciate your help by reporting the siting. Typically, she can be seen wearing bright colors, especially orange, and the unmistakable antlers will ensure that you have truly spotted her. She often carries a large pack, filled with goodies such as cookies, champagne, and even ice cream which she shares with hikers lucky enough to have befriended her.

Thanks, guys. WhitWalker: I might hit Hoffman this weekend, haven't firmed up plans totally yet. I've been meaning to do the traverse between Hoffman and Tuolumne Peak since I got snowed off it last October. Then again, maybe I can get Rob to run the lead on the west ridge of Conness... hmmm... Ah, Yosemite. Endless fun and possibilities!

Ah, west ridge of conness .. I need to do this one sometime - I am 0 and 2 on that route. NWS says 40% chance of t-storms both days in Tuolumne though, and Conness is a lightning rod. The W ridge also has a lot of fourth class soloing / simulclimbing.

This weekend we may head to a westside area like courtright .. not sure yet. Perhaps we'll chance tuolumne and just do short stuff. A bunch of my climbing buddies will be around .. might be a good day to brush up on technique.
