Planning on climbing Irvine and Mallory from Meysan Lake this weekend.

Does anyone know current conditions--I am assuming no need for ice ax or crampons but wanted to see if anyone has been there lately so I knew for sure.

Any other information about the climb/traverse that would be worth mentioning, as this is my first time in this area.

Thank you.

On 7/11 there was very patchy snow above the lake. I didn't bring an ax or 'pons and had no trouble getting to the Mallory/Irvine Saddle. I stuck mostly to rock with the occasional bit of very soft snow. I would imagine it is even more clear now, no?

Have fun!

Richard P posted pictures of the route to Mallory from Meysan lake

Look at the "I wasn't Lost" post from Richard P, from earlier today.

Why Yes, I am crazy. I'm just not stupid.

Thanks for the info--I had reviewed Richards post(he will be glad to know I used the search feature) but missed going to his website for the added pictures.

I now have a full understanding of the terrain--thanks again.

Ice was an issue for part of the route that I choose to climb up to the plateau, but may not be anymore as the temps seem to be heading up.

If you stop in to say hi to Doug, ask him for his recommendation. He looked at my track and stated that there is a much easier way to get up, but I don't recall the details. (I purposely chose the route I started up because I hadn't done it before. He may have been talking about the standard route up for Irvine, but I'm not sure. I did look over there and it was mostly clear of snow.)
