As many of you know, I made my first successful summit of the Mount Whitney last weekend. I am grateful for all the encouragement I received from this board. I do think, however, that some of you should lay off Current7. Perhaps she is an excitable girl, but so what? Her enthusiasim is sorely needed here, especially since the untimely demise of Vince D (I understand it was a mountaineering accident).
The reason for my post is that since my climb I have developed some symptoms which I believe are consistent with West Nile Encephalitis. I have developed a high fever (104F), neck stifness, stupor, disorientation, convulsions and a craving for WPS fries. The last symptom is probably not related, but I am worried. Despite my horrendous body odor, the mosquitoes were feasting on me all the way from Lone Pine Lake, until I had my bath at Mirror Lake. I am planning another hike on August 11 with my dopey brother-in-law and I am concerned that I may not be living by then, and he is so looking forward to this climb! If there are any physicians reading this, please advise. My family doctor thinks I'll just "get over it", but I just read that the Centers for Disease Control reported three-times the normal number of cases this week.
Sign me sick and anxious,
Andreas
