Ok, it's only $30/day, and you have to do some work. But it's in the backcountry! Here's the deal:

Friends of the Inyo is helping the Inyo National Forest with wilderness campsite inventory later this summer. So we're looking for dedicated hikers to attend a training and take on routes in the Golden Trout, South Sierra, Hoover, Inyo and Boundary Peak Wilderness areas.

The FREE training happens July 24-26 in the Golden Trout Wilderness, and includes meals. Then you'll get a survey route (you determine the length) and get to work!

This is all possible thanks to a grant Friends of the Inyo receives from the National Forest Foundation.

If you're interested, please send me a message or email explore@friendsoftheinyo.org.

FOI also has room in some upcoming wilderness stewardship trips and is leading tons of dayhikes--check the website!

I've answered all the emails sent to explore@friendsoftheinyo.org, so if you didn't get a reply, pm me and let me know.
There are still a few spots left, so be sure to email and sign up if you're interested!

Just a bump to let everyone know there are still a couple spots left for the wilderness campsite inventory training next weekend (7/25-26). It starts Saturday morning (campsites will be reserved for Friday night as well), and the group will be camping at Cottonwood Lakes--perfect for acclimating for a big hike!
It's two days of training, ending around 3pm Sunday afternoon. Meals are included Sat-Sun. After the training, participants get assigned a minimum three-day wilderness campsite inventory route.
Email explore@friendsoftheinyo.org to reserve a spot!

Hi
I'm doing the Johm Muir trail and need a re-supply (one bear cannister of food - maybe 7-10 pounds) at Kearsarge Pass or junction of Kearsarge Pass and JMT on Aug 10 or 11 (Mon or Tue). I am happy to pay someone for this.

Please let me know ASAP if you are interested.

You are always welcome to perform resupply services. If you perform them for free, you are subject to the same regulations and permit processes as any other hiker. If you take payment in return you become subject to the same licensing, bonding, insurance and special use permit requirements under state and federal law as any other legitimate operator.

Thread jack-back!

What this is about is a program offered in partnership with the Inyo National Forest to help wilderness managers inventory campsites. "Volunteers" receive a small remuneration for attending training and taking on a inventory route. Still a spot or two left, so email me or explore@friendsoftheinyo.org if you are interested in the very worthy, 110% legit opportunity brought to you by Friends of the Inyo!

There's also a volunteer trail work trip happening July 27-30 in Big Pine Canyon, and one out of Kearsarge August 2-8.

Maybe the person who wanted that JMT resupply could do some trail work in exchange for a food drop?

You have encountered one of the dangers of making your original subject more catchy and less specific: you run the risk of drawing responses from previous issues on the site that match your new title. Check out the 'Message posting tips' in the upper left corner of the window.

Also consider making the subject of your thread recapture post the original title of the thread so readers see you are back on track when they scan the thread.

Hi - I'm interested in the volunteer trailwork. Where do I start?

When in doubt, go up.
