As many of you know, I made my first successful summit of the Mount Whitney last weekend. I am grateful for all the encouragement I received from this board. I do think, however, that some of you should lay off Current7. Perhaps she is an excitable girl, but so what? Her enthusiasim is sorely needed here, especially since the untimely demise of Vince D (I understand it was a mountaineering accident).

The reason for my post is that since my climb I have developed some symptoms which I believe are consistent with West Nile Encephalitis. I have developed a high fever (104F), neck stifness, stupor, disorientation, convulsions and a craving for WPS fries. The last symptom is probably not related, but I am worried. Despite my horrendous body odor, the mosquitoes were feasting on me all the way from Lone Pine Lake, until I had my bath at Mirror Lake. I am planning another hike on August 11 with my dopey brother-in-law and I am concerned that I may not be living by then, and he is so looking forward to this climb! If there are any physicians reading this, please advise. My family doctor thinks I'll just "get over it", but I just read that the Centers for Disease Control reported three-times the normal number of cases this week.

Sign me sick and anxious,
Andreas

Andreas, bummer for you. I am short one permit spot for Aug 11. If it looks like your unfortunate demise does indeed happen - can you please let your brother-in-law know that I would be happy to take the extra permit off his hands. As well, although I am nowhere near as accomplished as yourself, I would be willing to guide him up the mountain if required, perhaps we could discover a new route and name a traverse in your honour.

Seriously, I am in need of a single day permit for Aug 11 - if anyone has any leads, please let me know.

Daskew: If andreas hinterstoisser does indeed die, and his dopey brother-in-law does not go, there will TWO passess available. Actually, I think he already has an extra pass. So, there might be three passes available. Because it is illegal to sell these passes, if he dies, I will be giving these passes out as prizes for the combination wake/wet t-shirt contest I will be holding in his hotel room's hot-tub on August 10th.

If anyone is interested, please post your contact information here.

Signed,

andreas' dopey brother-in-law.

P.S., Who is the real dope? I told him to bring a fly-swatter to kill the mosquitoes. But did he listen to me???

P.P.S. Who is Current7? And Vince D.

Current 7 is a guy not a girl andreas. I don't think current 7 is vince D. People just get tired of reading his posts everyday. I don't understand what happened to Vince, what made him stop posting?

Andreas, symptoms of your stupor and disorientation are evident in your post. I understand if a chiropractor cracks your neck to relieve the stiffness, all the other symptoms will go away. I recommend that you make an appointment as soon as possible, if not sooner.

It's fascinating how this string wandered. We started with a man who believes he may have a deadly sickness and within a couple of postings ended up debating the gender of our bubbily fellow poster. In the meantime, poor Andreas may have been hospitalized.
Ah, human nature!
By the way, I'm male and how are you feeling Andreas?

Lest anyone take this post too seriously (I have a feeling that fellow wise readers will recognize Andreas's satire), there is insignificant risk of contracting West Nile Virus while attempting Mount Whitney.
