I am looking for a spot to set up my tent. My friend and I plan to arrive early evening, Friday, August 15. We are friendly and will be good neighbors. Please reply if you can share a piece of ground from your site. We depart in the morning for the trail up.

You can usually find spaces in the hiker sites, which are situated between the overflow parking lot and the main parking area opposite the portal store.

There are 12-15 of these sites, and they are on a first come, first served basis ($8/night?). The sites are not fancy, but there is a restroom, water and bear boxes nearby. I have never seen this area completely full.

I've always managed a spot at the hiker lot. I suggest arriving before 2pm or so (earlier is better). That's been my strategy and it's worked every time so far (I think the sites cost $6).
