Men are always saying don't hike by yourself. No one should ever go hiking by them selves. Men do it all the time. So I love to here when women do it. One of these days I will embrace my independent and do a solo. But the Little Girl thing just makes me want to beat the crap out of them. I'm a very competitive person so that just makes me show them up. Just the way we will when we go hiking. We will all be fine. Well expect the bits. But I promise no whining will come from me.. This is one of the things I love about my Scouts and the other Leaders who hike with me the most... the EXPECT me to be able to do whatever they do.. and not only do they expect it, but they look to me for the leadership out on the trail and defer to my opinions... they don't expect me to be some fussy "little girl"... I am, by no means, some supergirl... I know my limits (and I definately have some)... I just don't show the boys them! Ava "One of these days I will embrace my independent and do a solo. " This day is coming for all of us (who haven't already seen it LOL)... some of us will wait a little longer then others... but it'll get here for all of us.

I had this reply all typed up and then my computer FUBAR'ed on me... stupid computer. Anyway Ava.. to sum it up... I completely agree with you. This is where I'm lucky wiht my Scouts and the Leadership there. Not only do they know that I can do it... they expect it of me and rely on me. They follow my lead and defer to my opinion. They don't ask "Can you do this Ms. Sistrunk"... they ask "Can the boys do this Ms. Sistrunk"... And there was more that I said... but I can't remember now

No it is not a competition. I just don't like to be looked on as a weak one so I drive myself. We will just go and have fun meeting new gals and make new freinds.

Yeah, I've never had that issue. I was born a teenager. I'm not competitive, I'm just drawn that way. No, Chris, it's not a competition. Ladies, I'll give you the background story on that when we hit the trail. Funny, why do I get this feeling that we're being watched...

Have we encroached wag bag territory on this thread? No? well - lets
Cat holes or wags?
poo packing or saving the wilderness from human toxins...hmmm
Last time I was carrying a wag, I turtled in the creek (yes, I was busy yabbin' and not watching my feet) and near filled another thinking I had just slammed that bad boy into a rock and possibly punctured it. oh ha ha ha...
thank goodness they make those pretty strong & double layered. whew - no poo

I was really hoping I could join this trip! Been following all of it and have been enjoying it. Hubby and I are doing a long over due road trip..thought we would be back in time..but it is not going to happen. I did a 4day 3night Pioneer Basin backpack trip in August of 2004...even though I have been there..I would have loved to have gone again! Beautiful part of the Sierra. The lakes in that basin are beautiful..we did not get to any of the peaks in the area..but at the end of the basin..we did get to the ridge between Crocker and Stanford...very cool views looking down into Steelhead Lake and over to Red Slate Mountain.
It would have been nice to meet all of you..it's so hard to find good people to do these trips with. Laura great you put this together...I wish all of you a safe and happy adventure out there have fun!

Moosie... would you be so kind as to throw out some average temps for the are for this time of the year?
I'm trying to decide how layered my layering should be. And which sleeping bag to bring. Will I be good wiht a 40 or do I need a 20 or lower?
Thanks Sweets!!!

The ipood is pretty lite too, with an area in the handle for paperwork. Nice. Laughed my bum off the first time I saw it - had to have it. Hey did anyone/everyone know about the big Blues & Brews party they're having in mammoth pretty much during the same time we're out n about? (july 31 - aug2) http://www.mammothbluesbrewsfest.com/breweries.htmlThey are also having the White Mnt open house on August 2nd. dang - its hot today...blech

Chris and ladies: Temps are usually decent, and we will be camping somwhere between 10-11K (have to look at the map to be sure). It's still been fairly cold up high, but I think it might change a bit in the next few weeks. I'll probably take my 40deg bag, but I'll check the weather before we leave to make sure. Better warm and cozy than shivering! I also tend to sleep cold, so I may still bring the 15deg bag. Haven't decided yet, to be honest. I am headed out on a few trips the next few weekends (yeah, big shocker there!) and I'll have a better gauge of the trends currently up high. Best bet, bring both in the car, decide at the trailhead based on the campout Friday night. As for layering, I usually wear a short-sleeve shirt, bring a long-sleeve wool to change into, and my down puffy. Again, I would rather be comfy than quibble over a few ounces. -L
