NOTHING works against those little blood suckers. I had a mosquito net over my head and a few of the little bastages somehow got inside. I squashed one and then had to look at the dead bugger between my eyes for the next 7 hours. I also learned quite recently that DEET cancels out any sunscreen you may have on...  Water=Mosquitos. Deal with it however you must.

You know, I have a fire pit for the patio. I'm campin' at the Moose Lodge. You know, since I never get up to altitude or nuthin' I may as well be miserable the first day...  Blah blah blah... lol Water=Mosquitos. Deal with it however you must. I deal with it by ignoring them the best I can and then reminding myself not to scratch for a couple weeks afterwards... lol

Ok I'm just going to be breakfast, lunch and dinner. They can smell me a mile away. Sorry gals you are all screwed. I do how ever have the best after bite stuff. I will bring that. It takes the sting and itch out. I may get one of the thing Steve suggest and look like a dork but it will help somewhat. Let the feast begin.

I will stick with the Moose Lodge. I am gonna be ozoned after the drive with only me driving myself nuts for hours, so the less logistics apon arrival, the better. I have found that ample sleep is as important to my adjustment as hanging at altitude, so I'll go with the no-brainer-plop-on-the-floor-lights-out gig.

I'm good with staying at campground as well. Getting acclimated would be a good idea. I always start to feel it about 13 so if we stay the night at 10 that would help. I do have some pills that may help as well. I have to take those when I do Whitney. Ok.. let me find out what I can do about CG reservations for the lot of us... How many want to camp? Yes, please. I'd like to sign up for a campsite. Car camping initially yes? I have a Kingdom6 I could bring for base camp. Its a 2 room tent w/ room for 2 on each side. I do Lux car camping - sorry...um, no I'm not

Laura will be able to confirm or deny this... but I think it's the sad truth... or was it Tuesday mornings they were closed... hurm.... But it does sound REALLY good!!! And yes... most definately car camping the first night... I'll let you guys know as soon as I have a site reserved... do you want to try to get as high as possible (10k) for that first night or find something a little lower?

I also learned quite recently that DEET cancels out any sunscreen you may have on... BINGO!! This explains how it is that the tops of my hnads keep getting darker, even though I have sunscreen/block on (or thought I did) B

Oh! I just poked my nose in this board for the first time in months, just want to say HOW COOL it is you ladies are planning this little backpack trip. I will watch your fun from a distance, so be sure to post lots of pix.
I am just now getting back into hiking after knee surgery (old knees suck) and carrying a pack is not a good option at the moment. My knee starts to squeek at me at the 3-mile mark, so no hope for this trip, but maybe in the future after a full recovery of my skillz.
Best wishes for a fun and successful hike with as few mosquito bites as possible! Remember if you get tired on the trail, I am watching you and cheering you on.
