Redtrails.com Many might already know of this site but I think it one of the best free online mapping for hikers for trip planning and just fun. Browse Trails, enter Keyword i.e. "Whitney". All the trails found are listed. Click on desired trail. Change Mode to 3D. Click "Show Trails on Map" to refresh trails and line thickness. Click to Zoom in and out. Move up and down and side to side with mouse. Perimeter 1" of map turns mouse into arrows that rotate map. And the coolist of all, hold down Ctrl and left mouse button to rotate in 3D around that point. Many other features.

It looks to me to be pretty much just a site that uses Google Earth, which is the 3D part.

Edit: I also noticed that the Main Trail is listed at only 7.5 miles, when it's actually 11.2.

I wouldn't rely on the gps data on that site. Some of it is wrong. Some trails it shows don't exist anymore. (are abandoned or cant be accessed because of private property, ect.)

It actually use Microsoft Bing maps with overlays and good point, never trust unoffical sources. Its only good for general planning and fun. Nothing beats a government topo and they're not 100% perfect.
