Patty sorry about your arm. You will be missed on the hike and hopefully you can join us on a future hike.
Ladies: I'm all up for the staying at ML on Thursday night.(Hopefully we can sneak stuff in Moosie’s pack)HaHa.. I also think it is good to stay at the hotel on Sunday, by then I will want a bed.
SoCalGirl - Let me know what time you would want to leave on Thursday

Ok... reservations for the room at the Hostel are already made....
It'll take about 6 hours to get from San Diego to the MooseLodge... so just let me know how much sleep you guys want to get Thursday night and I'll figure out what time we need to leave. LOL...

being a creature from the lowlands, I'm a bit curious about the Mooselodge's elevation. I bet Laura already knows the answer to that one. Just to make my paranoid, A.R. little self a bit calmer..is there a campground near trailhead? I'd like to chill with the group at Laura's, however for future happiness within the group, I require a bit of a chill at elevation. I'm going to need that scotch just to get my bum to unclench eh?

SanDi... I think Mooselodge sits at a tad over 4k in the Owens Valley... there are a couple of campgrounds up there (I've looked already lol) but the trailhead itself (where at least one of the CG's are) is at 10k'...
Do you guys want me to see if I can find something around 8k' or so for a night of acclimate before hiking in?

The ML is at 4K. There are many campgrounds along the way to Mosquito Flats (Blooty, the road is paved all the way!), which is at 10K. We'll be taking our time for sure, drinking a lot OF WATER (hehehe), and stopping along the way to make sure we are all feeling well.

But I will ask you for your recommendation or list for a campground. I can also drive up on my own because I realize I'm being a bit over cautious & don't want ya'll to have to leave SD early on accounta me. How are the mosquitos in that area or should I realize that they've called it mosquito flat for a reason. Disclaimer: I'm an ex-computer programer - so I'm a bit anal about my pre-hike research & prep. I'm all good once my feet hit the dirt..really, I am....

I'm not sweating it Carole... if nothing else we can ditch the other girls at the ML and I'll stay at the campground with you... that way you dun gotta stay by yourself!!! LOL... acclimating never hurt no one... I'll find us a camp... As for the Mossies... I've resigned myself already to spending the entire time covered in buzzing insects... and the next couple of weeks after that covered in welts... lol...

Sorry 'bout the intrusion but... I have slept in the parking lot of that trail head in the past to help acclimate. I'd just get there late and be up at dawn. And for those mossies, I highly recommend one of those "spring ring" head nets:

I'm just resigned... LOL

I'm good with staying at campground as well. Getting acclimated would be a good idea. I always start to feel it about 13 so if we stay the night at 10 that would help. I do have some pills that may help as well. I have to take those when I do Whitney. Moosie, have you heard about a little stick that you put on your pack that is suppose to get the bugs away. A friend told me about it but I doubt that it works. I will be with Chris on the weltz all over the body. Lovely!

My mom just told me about the stick thingy last night, but I haven't seen it. I usually go with a bath in 100% deet. Makes the skin all shiny and chit...

You know, I have a fire pit for the patio. I'm campin' at the Moose Lodge. You know, since I never get up to altitude or nuthin' I may as well be miserable the first day...
