Anyone know much about the status of the 220 state parks closing in California? Although it shouldn't affect my Mt. Whitney summit attempt on Aug 4th, it could change my overall Sierra siteseeing plan. For example, Bodie and Mono Lake are on the list for closure, along with several others in the sierra region. (Here is a link to the complete list: State Park Closure List )

I would guess many who climb Mt. Whitney tack on a few extra days before or after the hike to take in the sites.

According to the LA Times, the parks would close at the end of this summer at the earliest.
If you care to support or just stay informed, there is a non-profit called the California State Parks Foundation that is working hard to stop these closures.
The website address is: calparks.org
