Headed out of LA at around 1:30pm so we got a late start on the trail and had to bivy close to the ledges. It was nice because we missed all the heavy wind others experienced at the lakes.
Saturday morning we broke camp just after sunrise and headed to Upper Boy Scout stopping at Lower for a lunch break.
Spent the rest of the beautiful day acclimating at Upper Boy Scout and left at 6:30am for our summit attempt.
It was pretty easy going up the chute, lots of steps from all the previous attempts. Crampons came off before the notch and all the scrambling.
We skipped the main ascent after the notch and headed a little bit further, which, in hindsight, seems to be steeper and a little more technical.
Made the summit at 11:30 and descended by walking down the ridge and traversing over to the notch. About 3/4 of the way down the chute we were able to glissade to Iceberg Lake. It was all easy going from here back to Upper Boy Scout. We saw the CHP chopper land - I assume for the incident that occurred late Saturday evening.
We arrived at our camp at 2:00 - 7.5 hours after we began - packed up and headed down to the portal.
The hike down was beautiful; I couldn't believe how much snow melt had occurred since we started on Friday. The snow was great, we were able to ski on our boots and glissade down most of the trail between Upper and Lower Boy Scout.
It was a great trip and I would like to thank the folks on this board for providing an excellent resource and to all the people we met on the mountain for their advice and company.
