A BIG shout out to my girl "MOOSE" for being the toughest broad on the Eastern Sierra's! Pine Creek pass on November 8th & 9th was a beast in itself; and I wouldn't have made it w/o Moose breaking trail and having my back. It was a treat to climb with her again and to be with her on her 29th week in a row to top 10K!! WOOT WOOT

A quick prose whistle

DA MOOSE

The Moose is on an awesome quest
And she won’t quit, she will not rest
To 10K feet, each week she climbs
Telling all of wondrous times

And with each climb, she does inspire
Altitude is her desire
Making friends along the way
And in our hearts, the Moose will stay.

Now if we could just get spinefxr or some other photoshop wizard to put Laura on top of that animal. And maybe put GigaMike's smiling moose on her shoulder. smile

I thought it was to -climb- a 10K vertical each week. Now I'm not so intimidated, just envious.

What was the snow level at pine creek pass? Does anyone know the snow level on Mt. Whitney at trail crest?

29 weeks?! That is impressive. Forgive my ignorance, but is there a stated goal (duration) in mind? Other than the 10,000 ft threshold, are there other conditions (geographic and otherwise) of this quest?

Eugene: There was consistent snow on the Pine Creek Trail starting arounf 8500-9000ft. From Pine to Upper Pine Lakes, there is really no trail visible and depth was at my ankles on Sunday. Above Upper Pine Lake, depth increased to my knees on average (I'm 5'11", so maybe 18-20" or so?) but was also not consolidated in any way, so sinking to mid-thigh or finding a few holes up to my hips wasn't uncommon. Pics can be seen here. .

jnj: Last year, Tomcat_rc went 26 weekends straight getting over 10K with his hikes. I thought that was a really cool goal, so I decided, now that I live up here, to try it for myself. Actually, there are two things going here: getting over 10K every weekend (in some manner) is one. Getting out to "do" something (hike, camp, ski, etc) is another. Right now I am standing at 52 straight weekends of 'outside' and 29 of 'touching 10K'. I'd like to see both streaks extended if I can!

The latter was inspired by a fantastic woman named Cori, aka SnowNymph. When I told her my resolution for 2008 was to be 'out' for 50 out of 52 weekends, she asked quite plainly, "Why not 52?" I believe she is standing at around 130 or so straight weekends herself, and she is truly an inspiration to me.

Thanks for the quick history.

What goals - certainly a charmed, adventurous life you lead! Two admirable streaks flourishing.

You too are truly an inspiration to the rest of us city slickers out there who live vicariously through your great stories.

6 months straight of hiking above 10K was fun. Near the end, the pull of the desert was calling. I am part desert rat too and the weather was perfect for hiking in Death Valley. Keep up the streak - living so close gives you quick and easy access.

My work tells me that when I miss a weekend of hiking - I am a prick that next week. I am told not to come back the following week if I cannot feed my addiction. Fortunately they have not had to deal with that for the last 2 years(and counting). Ahhh to live so close to the mounains and be single.

Say, Mojave Red Guy, it sure would be nice to find a keg or two of my favorite brew in the vicinity of Cerro Coso Community College on the afternoon of 7 December...
