Hi We always say the real Whitney book is in the making after we sell the store here is a intro 18 years ago my brother and I unloaded $2700 gear from a pack a guy had just bought from a store in LA, plastic boots, three knives well at least one of if not two of the worthless crap they said would get him to the summit, we sent him on his way up the mountain with some snacks and a map we knew he would be back in an hour. He just about made it to the Wilderness sign and had enough of hiking,

Irrelevant, yeah probably but one could also make the argument that others weekly trip reports are just as irrelevant. Those reports also show up on other web sites. I think that your mistake was not watching that show closely enough. The ones you leave behind are not supposed to survive. If you leave them and they die, they can't complain or bad-mouth you later.

heyyojay - Perhaps you could offer to hike in the very near future with one of our group here at a mutually convenient hiking venue -- doesn't necessarily have to be a big peak and/or in the Sierra and/or an all-day hike; just a hike.
