Hi We always say the real Whitney book is in the making after we sell the store here is a intro 18 years ago my brother and I unloaded $2700 gear from a pack a guy had just bought from a store in LA, plastic boots, three knives well at least one of if not two of the worthless crap they said would get him to the summit, we sent him on his way up the mountain with some snacks and a map we knew he would be back in an hour. He just about made it to the Wilderness sign and had enough of hiking,

Test this for yourself get a 10 year old hiking mag , search and see how many products/ companies are still around and owned by the same family? And how many times the first great design has changed. It almost is a good as.......silk, down, wool.
Will wick UNTIL YOU MOVE off the couch to get another Colorado cool-ade.

Don't we see this at least once a week all season long, I left Chuck and Mary somewhere and they have the keys so we should start a rescue so I can get home. Well maybe just get me home would be fine also.

Troll or not if the shoe fits

Thanks Doug

Why did you even bother with Whitney? Any fool can day hike that. When your packing 1000 dollars worth of REIs finest, you should head to Everest and and bag that peak. As far as leaving your friend - who had the keys? Well then, he with the keys has the ride.

Next year as a training hike I would suggest the Materhorn ride at Disneyland.

Don't bother reading this board for advice - it's actually cheating. The answers you'll get here will improve your success rate 1000% and you sound like a dude who wants to only do it the hard way.................................................DUG

I remember an article in the Los Angeles Times a few years ago where this guy attempted Denali with KMart's finest. And was eager to go back with the same after SAR pulled his stupid a$$ off the mountain.

Man, can I borrow your cotton slumber party sleeping bag, I've got Denali to do.

Hey Moosetracks!!! Anytime anywhere. Well, maybe not anytime, maybe getting too late in the season, next spring. How about who gets the best time Onion Valley to the Portal. Come on! With all of your trip reports, you know someone was inevitably going to through down the gauntlet. Two cases of beer goes to best time. Can you hang???

My personal opinion is that this is another re-incarnation of Crystal...

Good choice in challenging the Moose. She cares too much too abandon the weak and weary. She'll pick you up and sling your sorry *** across her shoulder and carry you back to civilization after you've discovered you bitten off more than you can chew.

Who cares if this is true or not, it was still hilarious. He could be an LA comic working on a new routine but he is not a troll or another Crystal. He has done nothing offensive nor blasted anyone aka prior toxic personalities.

Crystal would know better than to try the personal attacks now... There are at least 4, or 5, moderators that watch the board and know how to use the Delete key.

You don't think it's insulting to the community that someone who claims to have spent six months researching on this board is as stupid as this guy seems to be? (Trolls try to draw attention to thenselves. The popularity of this irrelevant post is a near-perfect example.)

It is funny, but so were a lot of the hateful/spiteful posts we saw a few years ago (because they weren't pointed at me).

*sigh*... *yawn*...

Great, a droll troll.

And one that can't spell, either. I doubt it could pick up a gauntlet, much less throw one.

Don't sell yourself short. I seem to recall you telling me that you could toss a caber. Or am I getting things Scottish mixed up?

Troll, toxic personality, or grumpy old codger... It doesn't matter what they are, but the best response on a message board is NO response.

Please try to resist the urge to reply to those types of messages.

...but I realize I am one of the guilty ones, too.

Richard,

Irrelevant, yeah probably but one could also make the argument that others weekly trip reports are just as irrelevant. Those reports also show up on other web sites. You and others can call me Troll all day; I have not been offensive to anyone. Crystal? Never heard of her and don’t really care. Weak and weary??????? Moosetracks carrying me????? I don’t know about that. Bitten off more than I can chew?? Onion to the Portal, don’t think so. However, thanks for you concern.

I think that your mistake was not watching that show closely enough. The ones you leave behind are not supposed to survive. If you leave them and they die, they can't complain or bad-mouth you later.

I'm sure that lots of people on this board would team up with a guy like you. And, believe me, when they leave you...

heyyojay - Perhaps you could offer to hike in the very near future with one of our group here at a mutually convenient hiking venue -- doesn't necessarily have to be a big peak and/or in the Sierra and/or an all-day hike; just a hike.

Speaking of "phenomenal pictures":
