I will be coming up with my friend to climb Mt Whitney this summer. We are both vegetarians. We will be climbing Mt Langley first, then Mt Whitney and then spend a few days in the Ansel Adams Wilderness. My question is does anybody know if in the Lone Pine area there is somewhere to get fresh produce? Or is there somewhere to store a cooler with our produce in it. Or are there any other vegetarians who eat a macrobiotic diet out there who have any backpacking tips for food. Would love to hear about your thoughts about this subject.

I've often noticed a fellow and his wife who set up a produce area just north of the Portal road on the west side of US395 - if they're there, it's pretty obvious (blue tarps). But, they're not there everyday, so personally I won't count on them to restock.

I've gotten fruit there a couple of times. Other than the market in LP, there are few stores in the Eastern Sierra.
