Although our group of 5 "mature ladies" will be going to the top in July, we will be playing some golf with our husbands at the Mt Whitney Golf Course for 3 days next week. While we are so close we thought we would take a walk from the portal to Lone Pine Lake to check out our reaction to the altitude and get a feel for the lower trail. We all have been hiking several times a week, mostly at 5 to 7000 feet and feel we are getting in condition. Any word on the store opening and the lower trail conditions would be appreciated. d. zipp

Check out the link on the trip repport of 4/17.It should answer most questions on recent conditions. As of the 4/17 report there was about still about 5 feet of snow at Lone Pine Lake. The store opens sometime in May and I believe is posted on the front page of this site.
