Anyone intrested in climbing up Mt Baldy this weekend. This will be my first time up. I am a slow climber. I am looking for some one that knows the route.

I suggest posting under "Plans and Partners" on this site.

There are 4 basic routes up Baldy with variations on each. No matter which way you go, I assume you know that you will need snow/ice gear (and know how to use it). There was another fatality in that area last week, at a much lower altitude than the summit of Baldy.

Thank you. I have all the gear. I climbed Mt San Gorgonio 2 weeks ago. Had a great time. Just don't know the routes up Mt Baldy, and always like to climb with more than one person.

I have a couple of pretty experienced friends who hike Baldy frequently (through a variety of routes), and may be headed up there this weekend. If you like I'll let them know you're interested.

The fatality was in Falling Rock Canyon, a side canyon about 1/3 of a mile from the Icehouse Canyon Trailhead. The newspapers call anything in San Antonio Canyon Mt. Baldy no matter where it is within the canyon.

Yesterday, the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin erroneously reported Chung Koh being killed on 1/17 on Mt. Baldy. This accident occurred January 17, 2004.
