BV had a model where the lid would sometimes close over the bump on the rim instead of behind the bump. It was obvious if you knew what to look for. I call it user error, and I'd rather take responsibility for making sure I use it right than not be able to use a BV.

... and then there's the unique approach of Mephitis Industries called the Mephitisack. It certainly looks life-like! In order to minimize the effect of user error, the opening was placed in the business end.

Part of the "southern sierra bear problem" must also be because there are more bears around. From Wenk's, John Muir Trail (2007), "Since the early 1980s, black bear populations in California have at least doubled, now numbering between 25,000 and 30,000."
