Thought I'd share this, some people don't know about it:

California Highway Patrol

www.chp.ca.gov

Click on traffic information at the top of the page towards the right. The next page comes up with a drop down menu on your left - choose BISHOP. It is 'real time' and updated as road hazards or weather conditions occur.

ALSO..Cal Trans has a number, you can call and punch in or say the road (such as 395) for current road closures, delays, hazards, etc.

1-800-427-7623

Please folks when you come up through the Owens Valley know that weather here can change in the blink of an eye. It may be sunny and warm where you're coming from but always come here prepared for anything....bring extra clothes, blankets, socks, matches, water; be sure you have a good spare...the winds here can kick up dirt and dust and cause closures due to zero visibility. Drive safe and slow...get there alive!!!! We want you to come back again!!!!

There is also one other good reference - Caltrans Road Conditions . You can click on an area and you will get a map of the roads in that region. Click on the road and you will get current conditions. I find this is especially useful if you are trying to figure out where there may be chain requirements, wind warnings, etc.

Have fun but be safe!

Web cams are useful too. Here's one of Mono Lake.

Here's another link for Cal-Trans, similar to above:

I can't believe I'll actually use my cable chains this weekend! They've been living in the back of the TOF for a year!

Snow pics please! As long as I'm stuck at work today that's the least I expect!

The last time I was up there in the snow was at least 5 years ago. My kids are bugging me to go skiing/snowboarding this winter. Guess I'll have to plan a trip....

It's easier to remember as 1-800-GAS-ROAD
