many of the people who read/post on this board live in the SoCal area - with multiple fires burning in a wide range of areas.

I have friends who have already been mandatory evacuated - probably most everyone knows somebody currently affected.

my sympathy and well wishes to all - the next couple of days are going to be some trying times

Driving home from J-Tree yesterday afternoon was quite a ride, and my friend Leti and I got blown all over the place in the TOF. The plume from the Malibu burn was especially foreboding. My thoughts are with all affected.

I saw Santiago fires up close & personal last night. About 1.5 miles from my place. 20-30ft high flames. Presently Foothill Ranch is partially evacuated. My sister living in Carlsbad in San Diego County might soon be evacuated. She said all of the next city over(San Marcos) was already evacuated.

My wife has a friend who lives in Ramona. Her ex-residence, northwest of town, has already burned, along with much of her SAR equipment (her ex-husband still lives there, so she was still storing stuff there). Her current residence is also likely to burn, she says. Rough day.

My sister is in Santa Clarita, and was packing while watching the Canyon Country fire. But so far I don't think she's been evac'd.

Laura, I also was driving home from JTree yesterday (WTC grad), and the wind, smoke, and dust was something else. Fortunately, my home is in no danger (Los Alamitos).

Best wishes to all,
Rich

I'm in Cbad and we've received a couple voluntary evacuation calls so far. Many spots south and east of here are in jeopardy. The 5 fwy is a mess. Everything is getting pushed to the coast, then north or south. Should be an edgy night waiting for that mandatory call. My thoughts & prayers go out to those who have been displaced.

San Marcos was never evacuated, but San Elijo Hills was, but that has been called off because they have 100% containment on the Coronado Hills Fire above Cal State San Marcos...........steve....p.s. we self evacuated because of some intense roiling smoke, and I suffered a cat bite getting my wife's favorite into the cat carrier........

This is like deja vu for me. We we had our fires in Big Pine in July and were on evac alert and as most may know, Independence was evac'd, and the scars of the fires are still there; this week the winds kicked up the ash and they closed Hwy 395. Now my mom is in Irvine on Irvine Blvd near Northwood and the fire is getting close there. My prayers go out to everyone. What a terrible loss.

I got out of San Diego Friday morning without seeing any sign of fires. Shooting sunrise panoramas of the Palisades on Saturday, I saw dust filling the southern Owens Valley. I spent the last two days around Bodie shooting primarily for panoramas. I came back down to E-J's in Big Pine to start stitching the panos and have been watching fire trucks from northeastern California and western Nevada running south down 395 from mid-afternoon on, so more help is coming.

I live in Santa Clarita, near th I-5/Magic Mtn area. So far, we we have been very fortunate to be out of harms way but for the past two days we felt we are in the war zone with fires all around us. Smoke and air quality is really bad. Check some of the photos in the Canyon Country fire.

Over 300,000 people have been evacuated here in San Diego County, and Home Depot is sold out of paper dust masks and room air purifiers. There is an inversion layer that comes and goes that pushes the smoke down to the ground,, very strange !! Also, the low temp. this am is 73 degs.

All very horrible. Thankfully very few people have been hurt. To Thor and others in the affected areas, my prayers.

FYI- Today the entire Los Padres National Forest has been closed as a precaution.

Thor,
I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I'm in Carlsbad and wish I had room to house you for a while. We'd literally be walking into each other on a regular basis. Carol
