Can anyone give me the amount of snow/Ice on the Switchbacks leading up to Trail Crest from Trail Camp?

And Can can anyone give me or post a picture of the amount of Snow that is covering White Mountain. Has anyone been up there this week? What's the road like?

We are coming up this weekend to do White on Thursday and Whitney on Saturday night/Sunday Morning and are prepared for the worst of conditions but want first hand knowledge of the amount of snow and ice on either mountain if we can get it.

Thanks in advance to all of you that respond!

It was snowing at Schulman Grove (10k') on the way to White last Saturday. I'd imagine the road is possibly closed or impassible at some point before the Barcroft Cate.

Call the ranger station in Bishop and they can update you on White Mt. I know as of a few days ago there was still snow on the summit and our Indian Summer weather has not melted it off yet.

Spoke to the ranger in the Bishop office this morning and they indicated that there was snow at the last pass on White Mountain, from there to the trail head. She was kind enough to indicate that it gets direct sunlight and is starting to melt quickly but even if we do not feel safe enough to drive through that section we could still start the hike from there and be ok with just another mile+ added to the hike.

She also indicated that the road to Horseshoe Meadow should be clear in case anyone else was wondering.

Thanks to those who have been posting conditions on the roads and the trail.

Hope to see you on the trial.

With this good weather I think that amost all of the snow on Whitney will be gone by the weekend except for a few shady spots. My experience is that you can easily get through these if you have treking poles.
