a friend just sent me a reprint of an article on Clyde I'd never seen, and which is wonderful.

You can imagine my surprise to find a thread on another forum that also reprinted that, along with a long discussion of Clyde, including some personal rememberances. Really quite nice. I've thought it a shame that I never had the chance to meet him, but value the encounters I've had with Clyde's inheritors.

Ken, thanks for the link. I had never seen that interview. Norman Clyde was without question, the greatest of all climbers of the Range of Light. I've heard and read many stories about him over the years and enjoy reading his writings in "Close Ups of the High Sierra" Many if not most of the peaks I first climbed and continue to climb are via routes that Norman Clyde first did. His list of first ascents in the Sierra is amazing.
